SBI CLERK PREPARATION GUIDE

Build an SBI Clerk strategy that works when the clock is running.

SBI Clerk preparation is not just about finishing topics. It is about selecting the right questions, protecting accuracy, and improving from every timed attempt.

For independent aspirants preparing for Prelims and Mains. Always verify dates, eligibility, vacancies and the current pattern in the official SBI notification.

START WITH THE FORMAT

SBI Clerk exam pattern: know the clock before you start.

The table below reflects a commonly used recent format. It is a planning guide—not an official notification—so confirm the current recruitment notice before relying on it.

THE CORE STRATEGY

Accuracy first. Better selection second. Speed follows.

01

Build a strong base

Do not time a topic you do not yet understand. Learn the basic method, solve untimed questions, then introduce a clock.

02

Practise in layers

Move from single topics to mixed section sets, then to full tests. This exposes gaps without overwhelming you early.

03

Review every attempt

For each wrong, slow or skipped question, record the reason: concept, calculation, reading, selection or time pressure.

SUBJECT-WISE SBI CLERK PREPARATION

What to study—and how to practise it.

01

English Language

Focus: Reading comprehension, cloze tests, error spotting, sentence improvement and vocabulary in context.

Practical routine: Read for 15–20 minutes, note unfamiliar words in context, then solve a short mixed set.

02

Numerical Ability

Focus: Simplification, approximation, number series, arithmetic foundations and data interpretation.

Practical routine: Build calculation fluency first; use a timer only after the method is clear.

03

Reasoning Ability

Focus: Inequality, syllogism, coding, direction, blood relations, puzzles and seating arrangements.

Practical routine: Solve easy individual questions first, then graduate to one puzzle set at a time.

04

General / Financial Awareness

Focus: Banking terms, current affairs, regulatory developments and financial awareness for Mains.

Practical routine: Use short revision notes and repeat them weekly instead of collecting endless PDFs.

A FLEXIBLE 6-WEEK PLAN

Use structure without pretending every aspirant has the same schedule.

Weeks 1–2

Foundation

Cover core concepts, practise basic question types, and identify your weakest section.

Weeks 3–4

Mixed practice

Add sectional tests, arithmetic and puzzle sets, and begin a concise current-affairs revision routine.

Week 5

Timed performance

Take full Prelims mocks; work on question selection and section-wise time allocation.

Week 6

Review and refine

Revise error notes, repeat weak topics, and take fewer but better-reviewed mocks.

Working aspirants: a consistent 90–150 minutes on weekdays plus a reviewed mock on the weekend is more valuable than an unrealistic timetable you abandon after three days.

MOCK TEST STRATEGY

A mock test is useful only after the review.

Score is a result. The real value is finding the specific habit that lost marks or time, then changing it in the next attempt.

Start your free SBI Clerk mock
  1. Attempt honestly. Use the timer and avoid outside help.
  2. Tag every issue. Mark questions as wrong, slow, guessed or skipped.
  3. Find the pattern. Look for repeated errors rather than one bad question.
  4. Set one next action. For example: two DI sets, calculation drills, or a grammar revision.

COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID

Studying only favourite subjects

Easy progress can hide a weak section. Give extra time to the section that is costing you the most marks.

Taking mocks without analysis

A score alone cannot tell you what to fix. Review is where a mock becomes a preparation tool.

Leaving Mains for later

Keep General and Financial Awareness in your routine from the start, even while your main focus is Prelims.
